Job Description

Reports To: Chief Technical Officer – CTO

Division: Network

Mission:

  • To ensure Key infrastructure roll out and build is led and managed to excellence within budget, resources and to the satisfaction of Business Objectives and Strategic Intent of MTN Nigeria.

Description:

  • Regularly monitor and review the resources of the department, ensuring they are allocated and utilized in a cost-effective and financially disciplined manner and in line with budget provisions.
  • Assess resource requirements for the department, guide and influence the long-term financial view of the organization, and provide input into the overall business planning.
  • Develop a budget for Network Implementation function and actively monitor the approved budget, ensuring it is used in accordance with MTN expenditure regulations.
  • Work collaboratively to provide the capital expenditure budget for each division, push for extra allocation of CAPEX where appropriate, providing limits and alerts to overspend, and report on actual versus planned spent.
  • Lead procurement and logistics within the organization, ensuring adequate financial controls are in place to protect assets and capital expenditure.
  • Drive timely, accurate, and relevant reporting on capital expenditure throughout MTN Nigeria.
  • Guide the investment plan and capital expenditure for MTN Nigeria in line with the strategic plan.
  • Ensure end-to-end tracking and reporting of CAPEX spend related to network rollout and IS build.
  • Create and allocate MTN Nigeria Capex budget and report on spend per division. Ensure executive team are informed and empowered to manage CAPEX within their divisions. Monitor spends and alert to limitations.
  • Ensure compliance with all fiscal and regulatory parameters for capital expenditure.
  • Provide technical leadership/advice in the formulation and development of Network Implementation framework, policies, and guidelines and ensure compliance of Network Implementation operations with MTN policies and procedures.
  • Develop strategies for delivery of Network Implementation in alignment with the division/MTN corporate strategy and in response to events or changes impacting departmental activities.
  • Develop and implement plans in support of approved NID strategies, ensuring an effective method of monitoring related initiatives is deployed as well as providing regular management reports on the plans.
  • Lead and manage all present and future building projects within MTN Nigeria.
  • Highlight inadequacies and process improvements to ensure efficiency and on time delivery.
  • Champion Programme management within MTN Nigeria
  • Manage rollout of the Network against agreed targets
  • Develop and implement plans in support of approved strategies, ensuring an effective method of monitoring related initiatives is deployed as well as providing regular management reports on the plans.
  • Lead and collaborate with other business units in the development of business models for use in MTNN and develop measurement strategies to support ongoing strategy development and project optimization.
  • Develop strategies and champion customer centric culture across the organization and develop/reform relationships with MTNN’s internal and external customers to transform the MTNN’s revenue.
  • Deliver business value through partnership with MTNN’s Ecosystem Partners and customers to enhance MTN’s Corporate Brand.
  • Develop the framework for technical and commercial knowledge transfer and establish the same as a key component of the employee performance management system within the Network Implementation Department.
  • Provide leadership and direction in the operations, leading the team to deliver on respective business targets and improve the overall performance of the department.
  • Define and implement Key Performance Indicators and Metrics for support and operational activities, and use these metrics to drive service delivery excellence.
  • Identify, evaluate, and track the development needs and performance of staff within the division, providing opportunities for staff to build on the company’s investment in their training and improve productivity.
  • Coach and mentor the Network Implementation team to ensure understanding of the objectives and goals of the department, awareness of all related job requirements and accountabilities, and leverage human resources career development programs for staff career development.

Education:

  • First degree or equivalent, Engineering or Project Management or any related field
  • A master’s degree in business administration/management is desirable.
  • Fluent in English and language of country preferred

Experience:

A minimum of 12 years of working experience, which includes:

  • Senior management track record of 5 years or more, with at least 3 years in relevant sector/industry as per relevant role
  • Experience working in a global/multinational enterprise (understanding emerging markets is advantageous).
  • Worked across diverse cultures and geographies
  • Experience in managing project management function in a rapid network rollout environment
  • CAPEX management
